that's a very benign obsession, but an understandable one.

i had so much fun this past year watching the webcam of the channel island hummer with her nest in southern california! phoebe allens is her name so check it out in october when she will begin the process all over again! what a miracle to see a baby hummer survive the nesting experience. i had no idea how traumatic it can be. we followers chatted daily in the chat room connected to the webcam while watching the baby journey from egg through fledging. when the baby fledged there were thousands of us watching it take wing and fly away. the host of the cam kept the cam up so we could go through an easier withdrawal, watching the baby and mom at the feeder for a couple of weeks. it was such an amazing experience, and we are all thrilled to have a new season around the corner. host has done the cam for about 7 years, i think.

we love our hummers here in the garden. we have a few that are full time residents so we feed year round, using hand warmers on the bottom of the feeders in winter when temps drop lower than freezing. :)
