I THINK I UNDERSTAND THIS ELECTION A LITTLE BETTER NOW
I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....
* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, it's a quintessential American story.
* If your name is Barack, you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.
* Graduate from Harvard Law School and you are unstable.* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.
* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Se nate r epresenting a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on t he city council, and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people (the same population as the city of San Francisco), then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.
* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a true Christian.
* If you teach responsible, age-appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.
* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25, and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.
OK, it's all much clearer now.....

well, each time i read some version of this i panic. who are the republicans who support this ticket? what is it they really believe in? how could educated people really buy into the idea that palin is competent enough to lead this country? did you see the polling being done at PBS? i could not believe how many people say palin is competent - and on a PBS site as well! it is all very scary that the republicans have not come to their senses since they have now had time to think about it.

That was not only funny, but scary--- unusual but totally appropriate for the situation

If it wasn't so sad it would be funny.
Sky I will assume unless you tell me otherwise that you are following Hillary's advice and voting for Obama - which makes me very happy of course. If you have anytime at all go to the website and sign up to help!

It's pathetic when you can only back up your belifes in one party by completly disregad the ideas of any one else. You can only make yourself feel better by lowering others way of life. I feel sorry for you that you are so ignorant. You are a racist in your own nature.

anon- if you knew me you would know how false that statement of me being a racist is!

racism: 1. the notion that one's own ethnic stock is superior.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on racism.

anonymous: If you want to start a discussion, you should say specifically what you disagree with in the post, rather than resorting to name calling and condescending "pity."

I've known RDL for a long time and she is one of the least racist people, most honest and open I've never met. You have every right to disagree with her politically, but not to judge her as a person.

hey Anon, shut up!

oooooohhhh, this just gets scarier.

I actually wrote a snarky comment but thankfully I had kept the classy statements of Patry and Mary in my head.

Now I'm going somewhere to put forehead to brick

r, i am a democrat through and through. :) i spent 30+ years of my life working for the poor, disabled, dying, and sick, doing what i could to provide social services to those in need. living through the reagan years almost killed me professionally and financially - staff vacancies i could not fill, clients who were hungry and homeless, infants who needed clothes and formula. HIV was bursting forth with no money for research and major discrimination because patients were most often gay or drug users. my staff and i got no raises for several years despite the increase in cost of living. churches who had tried to fill in for the absent funds withheld by the reagan administration ran out of resources to help my social work staff provide needed services. it was a nightmare. we often used our own money to provide necessities. the 2 bushes have injured me emotionally as i have watched the country pay for their poor choices and deficient leadership. the last one almost destroyed the country.

yes, i am supporting obama. i told you long ago that i liked him just fine, but i thought then (as i do now) that hillary would do a better job and that she had a better chance of winning the general election. i think if obama had put her on the ticket we would not be sitting here sweating it out, and we would not be dealing with a goofy palin at all. i understand on some level his reluctance to do so, but i think it was a decision which lacked insight and one that he likely regrets.

joe biden is someone i have great respect for and like very much. i think he will do a fine job and that he brings strength to the ticket in terms of international policy and experience. i don't think, however, that he will bring the voters hillary would have brought in november. those voters are even more important in a racist world. 18 million voters are a powerful benefit to any ticket. many people will vote for maccain only because he is a caucasian male - reagan democrats and independents, especially. the base alone is not enough for either party to win. i am glad the democrats hugely increased the voting registry during the primaries.

if john maccain continues to make disjointed and sometimes absurd statements and palin continues to utter sadly ridiculous comments obama has a very good chance of winning. otherwise, i am afraid it is going to be a very tight race. obama is by far the better candidate, in my opinion. i don't envy the challenges ahead for the new administration.

i joined the obama campaign the day hillary conceded. we are a very politically active family, and i have worked tirelessly for democrats for over 30 years. unless old age makes a conservative out of me and changes my value system drastically, i will be doing the Democrat Thing until i die! :))
