Yes, I did choose this title to attract hits. It could've been "On the road again", which my sweet son was singing as we pulled out of the driveway. I was still in my post packing tizzy and already worrying about what I'd forgotten that I had to ask him what he just sang. I asked him,"where have you heard that song? do you know who it's by?" and he said no, he's just heard me singing it. who knew cornyness is an inherited trait?
We took off an hour late because of my packing phobia. I put it off til the last minute. Then I couldn't even find the overnight/wkend nylon bags that i like to use for short trips and frantically searched the attic twice and ripped apart the guest/den closet ( and left everything in it's tornado like state, i might add). I found them after we had devised alternates of course! They were buried under some stuff , which i found when i went looking for a lost pocketbook.
which brings me to another reason why i am so lame at packing, it's because, i don't get much practice, i hardly go anywhere. And when i'm home, i usually wear uniforms to work and then my uniform here - jeans and whatever to clean, paint, garden, hang around the house. It is really hard to come up with "outfits" when you don't really have any. when you buy things because they are on sale and you need new jeans, or pants or buy a random top cause you like it. Go try and figure out what to pack from the odd assortment. And then there are all the products to bring and hair clips to manage the unruly hair and what about accessories?
Anyway I really needed to get away and we had a great time in NY and NJ. I won't promise to tell you more later because we all know I never finish anything. But I will post some pics. Tomorrow, I promise, really.
Oh yeah and Happy Birthday Annie Lamott!!

I'm going to New York April 27th. What did you see that I shouldn't miss?
Wow, you had a great time in Jersey. I certainly want to hear how that was accomplished, since my favorite thing about going there is the free laundry at my parent's place.
A-law is this yr. 1st time to NY? I grew up in NY but had never seen the "sites" so I've taken my son to the Empire state bldg and the statue of liberty and ellis island and the museums and enjoyed all. This trip we took one of those doubledecker buses which i would highly recommend ( and sit on top! so you can see). It's interesting and will orient you quickly and you can get on & off. We did the downtown tour(prob. the best esp. if you only have a short time) and got on at Port Authority which then does the pick up at hotel loops so you get to see Central Park too (which is uptown). But our favorite part is walking around Times Square and the Village. And don't forget to eat at a deli. Have fun!!
noelle, we had fun visiting my cousin and her family and dogs. I also went to a reunion with High school friends that i haven't seen in decades, but i know what you mean since i grew up there and couldn't wait to leave.
I've been there about four times. I'd like to get discount tickets to a Broadway Show and then, of course, the big thing will be seeing our son perform at Carnegie, but I'll tell more about that later on my blog. I've seen the Empire State Building and Ellis Island. I haven't really spent any time with MOMA or much time at the Metropolitan, but we only have two days.
Yay, and you're going to Montreal too.
It sounds like it was fun and I see Lukie wearing his BoSox cap :D
Hey, that's fun! Enjoy yourselves!
correction: i grew up in a small town in NJ - a far cry from NY - but less than an hr. away.
Oh rdl, now I know for sure we would be the best of friends in real life! I can't claim to have packing problems (as I too rarely go anywhere), but the clothes situation I can completely agree with!! I got changed three times this morning (and believe me, I'm not one to worry a great deal about what I'm wearing!) you see, I bought some new trousers in the sales last year, and now it's warming up (and that they're a tad baggier than my jeans which is a benefit at the moe ;o)) I thought I'd wear them today. But my walking boots looked ridiculous with them, and then I changed the top three times and realised I don't have any that look right. Guess I'll give them to a friend (...if you were here, I'd give you first dibs!)
Jona - I know we would too. :D glad to see you back on the blog.
I am loving your blog! I spent a little time in Canarrse, Brooklyn. Not sure I spelled that one right...oh well.....OFF TO READ MORE!
