Mixed feelings

in

It was with mixed feelings that i took the Xmas decorations down this year. Usually I can't wait, let's get it over with - restore order, get back to my minimalist ways. But as soon as I started the dismantling I noticed how pale things were looking. No sparkle, no glitter, no shiny ornaments. And the worst of winter on the way - colder, grayer, starker.

A whole year before I see my angels and my cute little nutcrackers, not to mention my Martha Stewart decorations ( 2 gold colored decorated acorns that i hang in the front living room windows and 2 small icicle wreaths with white bows that hang in the back windows facing the sunroom. But wait I can just head on over to Mary's place for some shine.

I too, suffer taking the lights down because they stave off the bleakness of winter. The warm glow makes me feel more content and cozy. I do leave them up until "little Christmas" Jan 6th, but it's just an excuse.
Thanks for that link to the Christmas Bell :D
What a sweet surprise :D

I also bought another small table tree and decorated it for my new bow window. It looks superb!pcbqec

But think how special it will be when they get taken out again next year...

I can't stand taking down the decorations. That's one of the reasons I leave the icicle lights up in my kitchen all year long.

My youngest daughter always begged us to leave our windows Christmas-lighted until the snow was gone. We usually have them down by the 10th of January or so, but one year, left them up till March (and we weren't alone). I remember how warm and comforted I felt walking back from the bus after work and seeing my window shining from blocks away.

it's sad looking at the emptiness it left behind.
